Speeding up and slowing down, properly
Changing a video’s speed is easy; keeping it pleasant to listen to is the hard part. At 1.25× in Tape mode, voices rise almost four semitones — great for nightcore edits, odd for a tutorial. In Keep pitch mode the studio’s pitch engine holds the original key while the tempo changes, so speech at 1.25× still sounds like the same person, just faster.
Which mode for which video
| Video | Speed | Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Sped-up music edit | 1.15–1.25× | Tape |
| Tutorial or talking head | 1.1–1.5× | Keep pitch |
| Slowed + reverb edit | 0.8–0.9× | Tape |
| Dance practice | 0.7–0.85× | Keep pitch |
| Timelapse feel | 1.5× | Keep pitch, or replace the audio |
Limits and quality
- The speed range is 0.5× to 1.5×. For larger changes, export once and process the result again.
- Keep-pitch processing is most natural within about ±25%; beyond that voices start to sound processed.
- Exports are 1080p H.264 MP4 at 30 or 60 fps, in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9.
