Slow motion with the sound
Slowing down a video usually means slowing two things: the frames and the soundtrack. The studio does both by the same factor, so a clip at 0.85× lasts 1/0.85 ≈ 1.18 times as long and every word and beat still lines up with the picture. In Tape mode the voice drops in pitch along with the speed — the classic slowed sound. In Keep pitch mode the voice keeps its natural key.
Slowing footage doesn’t invent new frames: a 30 fps clip at 0.5× shows each original frame for twice as long. Clips filmed at 60 fps (or in your phone’s slow-motion mode) look smoother when slowed.
Common speeds
| Speed | Feel | A 15 s clip lasts |
|---|---|---|
| 0.9× | Barely slower, dreamier sound | 16.7 s |
| 0.85× | Classic slowed + reverb | 17.6 s |
| 0.75× | Heavy, cinematic | 20 s |
| 0.5× | Strong slow motion | 30 s |
Tips
- Add a hall reverb at 30–40% so the slowed sound feels intentional rather than just slower.
- Trim before you slow: choose the moment first, then lower the speed.
- Export 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, or 16:9 if the clip was filmed in landscape for YouTube.
