iPhone app privacy
How the Slowed Room iPhone app handles your data: your songs stay on your iPhone, there's no sign-up, and ads only play when you choose to watch one for credits.
This page covers the Slowed Room app for iPhone. The website has its own privacy policy, and the Android app has its own too.
The short version
Your songs, photos and videos stay on your iPhone. There's no sign-up: the app uses an anonymous account to keep your free credits, AI features and friend invites working. Video ads only play when you tap "Watch a video" to earn credits, and they only use your iPhone's advertising identifier if you allow it. We don't sell your data.
Your music, photos and videos
Songs are slowed, sped up and mixed on your iPhone, and videos are made on your iPhone. We never upload your music. Photos and videos you use as backgrounds stay on your iPhone. Finished videos are only saved to Photos or shared when you choose to. If you let the app use your music library, it's only to list the songs you pick from.
Your anonymous account
The first time you open the app, it creates an anonymous account with Google Firebase Authentication: no name, email or password. Our server keeps that account's credit balance, daily limits, your invite code and, if you joined through a friend, which account invited you. To stop people from collecting free credits by making many new accounts, we keep a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your network address for a day; the address itself isn't stored.
AI features (only if you use them)
When you describe an AI scene, your words and the mood you picked are sent to our server and to Google's Gemini API, which paints the picture. Finished scenes are saved under a code made from the words, so the same request can be answered again; they aren't tied to your account. Line ideas send the mood and language you picked to Anthropic's Claude API. Please don't put personal information in scene descriptions.
Vibe codes
When you export a video, the app can make a vibe code. It saves your edit's style (mood, scene, look, visualizer, sound settings and text style) on our server so anyone with the code can use it on their own song. It never includes your music, your photos or videos, or the words you wrote. If your edit uses an AI scene, anyone with the code can see that picture.
Rewarded videos (ads)
The app plays a video ad only when you tap "Watch a video" to earn credits. These videos come from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google collects data such as an app-specific device identifier, your approximate location from your IP address, which ads you saw and how you interacted with them, and diagnostic data. We send Google your anonymous account ID so it can confirm to our server that you finished the video. The first time you choose to watch a video, iOS asks whether the app may track you ("Allow tracking"). If you allow it, Google may use your iPhone's advertising identifier to show ads that suit you better and to measure them; if you don't, the video plays without it. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and the UK), the app asks for your consent with Google's consent form first. Read how Google uses data from apps that use its services.
Friend invites
Your invite code and link are tied to your anonymous account. When someone joins with your code, or by opening the vibe code from one of your videos, we record that link so we can give you both credits. We don't learn who your friends are.
Who processes data for us
Google Firebase and Google Cloud (in the United States) run our server and accounts. Google AdMob provides the rewarded videos. Google's Gemini API and Anthropic's Claude API power the optional AI features.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your account's data while you use the app. Your anonymous account is kept in your iPhone's Keychain, so your credits survive reinstalling the app. To delete your account's data, email us your invite code (it's under Credits in the app) and we'll remove it.
Children
Slowed Room isn't directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
